Montserrat Municipal Archive

Scroll

In the Municipal Archive of Montserrat we find the Municipal Fund, the result of the activity developed by the City Council from 1901 to the present day.

It also includes the Fund of the Local Agrarian Chamber of Montserrat, and scarce documentation from the local leadership of the Spanish Falange and the Court of Peace, in the latter case, almost all of the documentation is kept in the Court's offices.

On January 25, 1932 the Archive was burned. But despite this fact, few vestiges of previous decades remain.

In the mid-1990s, Pura Navarro Campos and Anna Campos Alemany worked on the archive, which was divided into two different locations, resulting in the inventory and cataloging of the documentation between 1850 and part of 1993.

In 2004, Montserrat City Council joined the experimental phase of the Archives Service of the Commonwealth of Ribera Alta.
And since February 21, 2005, through plenary agreement, they have joined the consolidated phase of said service. Initially with 2 monthly modules (8 hours per month) up to the current 5 modules (20 hours per month).

In 2005, the two document repositories were unified, moving all the documentation that was in the basement of the Old Schools to the building on C/ Federico García Lorca.

In 2016, work began on adapting a municipal premises, with more capacity, to house the Municipal Archives, since the storage capacity of the building on C/ Federico García Lorca was exceeded.
In 2017, the transfer of documentation was completed.

The chronology of this documentation starts in 1850 until 2015.
