The archive of the Societat de Festers, intrinsic to the Society since its creation, includes historical documentation where we can unravel the passing of the years of the city of Ontinyent through the Festival.
The Photographic Archive, with more than 7000 images, contains a very important visual heritage of the history of our festivals captured by the various devices that, throughout history, both professional and amateur photographers have used.
The first images date back to the dawn of our festivities in the last decades of the 19th century, and were used to capture the various troupes when they entered the Plaza Mayor on the big days of the festivities.
After the time, we can enjoy the costumes of the troupes that participated, with snapshots captured at the central events of the Great Week. It would be well into the 20th century, when photography becomes a hobby for a significant number of revelers who since then immortalize the great days of the Festival.
Also noteworthy in the archive is the collection of musical scores, since music in Moors and Christians festivals is a very important feature and the bibliographic fund with hundreds of publications from Ontinyent and other municipalities about the Moors Festival and christians
Services and activities:
In addition to consulting the archive, you can visit the Fester Museum, opened in 2001, it exhibits in its facilities a set of emblematic pieces from the festival of Moors and Christians of Ontinyent.
A tour through several rooms showing elements that help the visitor understand the Moors and Christians Festival and its history over more than 150 years: photographs, costumes, models, posters, paintings, sculptures, etc.
The facilities are located at the headquarters of the Societat de Festers del Santíssimo Crist de l'Agonia at Plaça de Baix, 30 and are spread over three floors, all with access for people with reduced mobility. During the visit to the Fester Museum, we can find spaces dedicated to the clothing of the different troupes.
In music, with original scores; as well as the cult of the Most Holy Christ of Agony; or the Embassies that Joaquín José Cervino wrote in 1860 for the parliament that takes place in the Plaza Mayor every Monday of the Holidays. The rooms where the special costumes of the main positions are displayed are also very interesting: Captains, Ambassadors and Flag Bearers.
In all the spaces, we can enjoy different audiovisuals that help us learn about the history and the present of a festival of National Tourist Interest.
