The Provincial Historical Archive of Castellón (AHPC) was created by Ministerial Order of November 7, 1968 (BOE of November 25, 1968). It was subsequently transferred to the Valencian Government by Royal Decree 3066/1983, of October 13, and managed following the Agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the Valencian Community, published in the BOE of January 19, 1985. On 10 in November 1997 the AHPC was cataloged as a Property of Cultural Interest.

As for the facilities, they are currently located in the building of the Public Library of the State of Castelló, in Carrer de Rafalafena, awaiting the next start-up of the new headquarters in a of the buildings of the old CUC, properly renovated for the needs of an archive center of these characteristics.
Previously, the funds were deposited in the main street and in the basement of the Territorial Service of Culture, in Avinguda del Mar.

Like the rest of the provincial historical archives, the AHPC collects the notarial protocols of more than one hundred years old as well as the historical documentation of the Provincial Court and courts, of the Tax Delegation and all the documentation produced for the provincial services of the Central Administration in the province.

Video
The signatures of the notaries of the different districts of Castelló in 1876
They show beauty and originality in the designs and shapes, some more than others.
In the images you can see what the rubric was for each of them, at least 49 professionals practicing on that date throughout the province.
It is possible to know these signatures thanks to the notarial indexes of the period 1875-1899.
Unfortunately, most districts lost all or practically all the protocols prior to the last civil war and, with this type of document, we are allowed to make approximations of the notarial activity and other data that emerged in each district during those years .
