The archive was originally located in a section of the council building, a construction from the end of the 18th century that remains today as such, where all the documentation that had been generated by the municipality since the 16th century was found.
Later, with the construction of the House of Culture in 1972, the oldest part of this documentation was moved to the offices it still occupies today on the third floor of this building, since, over the years, the large volume of documentation generated by the town hall was the reason for dividing the documentary fund into two: the historical and the administrative.
The first arrangement of the contents of the Cullera archive can be traced back to 1550. It was carried out by the scribe Pere Cabrera and she was followed by Francesc Folquer in 1646, Vicent Segura in 1753, Manuel Sapiña in 1866 and Jesús Villalmanzo in 1976.

Currently, work is being done on the verification and registration of the documentation and insertion of data electronically.

Documentary funds
Considering their material form, we can distinguish these three groups:
The parchment documentary collection currently preserved amounts to 310 pieces. Chronologically they range from 1283 to 1692, predominantly the pieces of the
15th and 16th centuries, although the most important and spectacular scrolls, due to their content and size, are those from the 13th and 14th centuries.
These are approximately 5,000 books, in the most varied formats, from simple notebooks or drafts, with cardboard covers, to monumental "Padrons de la Peita" and the "Rustic and Urban Wealth" of the mid-century XIX, bound with thick wooden covers lined with leather and provided with enormous cabochons in the style of the great monastic or cathedral chantries.
They are a set of approximately 4,000 boxes. It should be noted that they often have the same content as books, and that their only difference is that these are bound and the bindings are not. That's why many book collections need to be completed here.
