They say and tell that the libraries of the future are moving away from paper, but I like to stand in front of the shelves, take a look and wait for a paper book to catch my eye. Joseph Moll
Paper, faithful witness. Paper sold, paper lost. paper saved, paper won. A house without books is like a garden without flowers. Friends A room without books is like a body without a soul. Cicero
It is the year 1931, a talk is being given in the Official Chamber of the Book at the library school, by the publisher and bookseller Fco. Beltran. When it ends announces to the public the publication of a book of 448 pages containing 143 vignettes and maxims, aphorisms, news and dissertations by ancient and modern authors.
It is titled "The book and the printing press” of Francisco Beltran Torres and on pages 123-124 some maxims of H. Maxon appear that twenty years later were used in the Segrelles studio library of Albaida: "Como habla el libro al lector"
The "maxim" is a figure of speech that consists of expressing a deep thought in a concise way and in a few words.
While in New York, Josep Segrelles had begun to design (decorated with Arabic motifs) what his future House-Museum would look like in his town. In 1940 he decided to live permanently in Albaida, where he married Rosita Tormo, who would die a few months later. After the painful loss of his wife and numerous financial difficulties, in 1943 the works on the house-museum were finished. In April of the same year, he opened a library within his own House-Museum. House-Museum where he lived and painted until his death on March 3, 1969. Throughout the house you can discover Segrelles' way of life and way of being, his universe.
EPHEMERA, the sanctuary of the ephemeral. "Ephemera" are short-lived written and printed materials that have not been made to be preserved (used and thrown away). Its survival, therefore, always depends on chance or the passion of some collector. The word derives from the Greek and means "things that don't last more than a day". Some of the collectible "ephemera" materials are: bookmarks, catalogs, greeting cards, letters, brochures, postcards, posters, share certificates, tickets, tickets, pocket calendars, etc. (more than 500 types of “ephemera” materials). The first time this term was used to refer to short-lived printed works was John Lewis in his work "Printed Ephemera” (1962).
For a library or for the information sciences, the term “ephemera” also describes the class of loose-leaf publication or single-page documents that are intended to be discarded/recycled after each use.
