Saturday January 12, 1980. Two events.

First, until that day, the condolence and dismissal of the deceased was done on the street "Avenida de Onteniente", in front of the Odeón cinema, Now it will be done at the side door of the church, but the relatives will be placed on the wall of the palace He had the "honor" (in quotation marks) of being the first: Tomás de Margalita.

Second fact with repercussion in the national press (expand information in newspaper archives of the written press such as ABC, El Pais, Las Provincias, etc). A great snowfall with fatal industrial consequences. On Saturday at noon it starts to snow until seven in the evening, when it stops and starts to rain until two in the morning, when it starts to snow heavily, without stopping snowing throughout Sunday. At noon, there was 36 cm in the town. of snow By the evening, the snow accumulation was already 47 cm (70 cm. in Casa "El Clau"). At midnight, it stops snowing and starts to sleet all night long. The town was in the dark (no light) and no drinking water. It rained 131 liters. So much snow and water produced the collapse of industrial buildings (18), but without any personal misfortune. The Albaida Valley was declared catastrophic because the snowfall also affected towns such as Ontinyent, Bocairent, Agullent, Atzeneta, Bélgida and others. In the northern part of Alicante, Alcoi and its region, were also isolated and very affected. According to meteorologists, the snowfall occurred because easterly or gregal winds (unusual in our territory in winter) associated with irruptions of continental polar air (cold inputs from the NE). They are icy and wet storms, especially in the North of Alicante and the South of Valencia, when they have a maritime route.
